Returning to school after testing positive to COVID-19

4th March 2022

Dear Parents and Carers,

This is the process to follow for when a child is ready to return to school after having COVID-19

1.     NSW Health will issue your child a Medical Clearance Notice

o   This will detail that someone can leave self-isolation if you do not have any symptoms

o   NB. Students with symptoms cannot return to school

2.     Call the office to inform the school that your child is ready to return (do this before returning)

3.     Email stmarys-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au a copy of your child’s NSW Health Medical Clearance Notice (do this before returning)

o   This is necessary because absences that are longer than two days need a doctor’s certificate and in the case of COVID-19, we need the NSW Health Medical Clearance Notice which provides dates

This is the process to follow if you have a child who is ready to return after being a household contact in isolation

1.     All household contacts must have:

  1. Call the office to inform the school that your child is ready to return (do this before returning)
  2.
    • Followed the self-isolation guideline and self-isolated for 7 days from the time the first COVID-positive person in your household had their test
    • Had a rapid antigen test (RAT) or PCR as soon as possible and again on Day 6. Had an additional RAT or PCR if you developed symptoms
    • If all tests were negative, you can leave isolation after 7 days

3.     Email stmarys-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au a copy of the family member’s NSW Health Medical Clearance Notice (do this before returning)

o   This is necessary because absences that are longer than two days need a doctor’s certificate and in the case of COVID-19, we need the NSW Health Medical Clearance Notice to provide us with dates

NB. You do not need to repeat isolation if another person in your household tests positive in the 14 days after your isolation period ends. If another person in your household tests positive for COVID-19 more than 14 days after your isolation period ends, you will have to isolate again and follow the instructions for household contacts of people with COVID-19 https://www.nsw.gov.au/covid-19/management/people-exposed-to-covid

Kind regards,

Mrs Emily Luzaic
